Grateful for Heroes

How blessed am I to have the honour of introducing my dear friends Denise and Scott as the closing speakers for the OAAP conference we hosted at our campus?

Impressive people on paper, their list of accomplishments is not what makes them special (isn’t that always the case when you’re talking about extraordinary people?)… what makes them special is how hard they work, how seriously they take every challenge, how much they care about people… and most of all… how much they intend to make the world a better place, one task at a time, one show at a time, one interaction at a time. Heroes.

They bring a positive energy, can do approach, authenticity and professionalism each time they engage with you, whether one on one or in a big audience.

When you have heroes like Denise #denisegarrido and Scott #scottdietrich in your corner, cheering you on, offering support, recommending books, lending a listening ear, sharing wisdom, introducing you to even more real life heroes, pulling you out of the dark, you can’t help but feel loved and encouraged to do your best. They were amongst the first to respond to my non-existent vague cries to the universe for help, as I struggled with my health issues. They reached out to check in on me just as I was drowning, unable to turn to friends and loved ones. They called when I all I wanted to do was to be a hermit and stay as far away from people as I could. They knew what to say to turn things around. They never judge, guilt, or shame… they encourage, support, and inspire!

So, I’m going to cherish this photo capturing a moment in time when my colleague and I hung out with Denise, Scott, and a third unseen little one (!!!) after a fabulous conference focused on Helping the Helper. And I’m going to wish for everyone to have a Denise and/or Scott who jumps into your life when you least expect it and when you need it the most.

Grateful!
